Italy, we can't wait to meet you!

Escape with me

Good Morning Everyone!

So I am currently sitting in the McCarran Airport waiting for my flight to New York then from New York I’ll be flying straight to Milan, Italy!! Are you getting goosebumps? Because I am!

The travel butterflies. I wish I could share with you the butterfly feeling that I’m having right now… I’m excited yet extremely nervous. I mean this is my first time boarding a plane that will take me to another country, how am I supposed to remain cool and collective?! Well let me just say I’m hiding it quite well, no one in this airport knows that I’m freaking out on the inside. We’ll just keep that between us, okay?

Okay…so let me share my worry of this morning, just so you get a glimpse of the whole picture. I mean I did say I’ll share the good and the bad with you…

I forgot to mention my itinerary for today. So I flew from Kona to Honolulu then Honolulu to Las Vegas on Monday night (arriving Tuesday morning). That’s about a 5-hour flight. So there’s that. TODAY I’ll be flying a total of about 13 hours. Crazy right? Okay so I’m about to leave Las Vegas to fly to New York (JFK airport) which will be another 5 hours or so and then I fly to Milan from New York! That flight will be about 8 hours. All in one day of flying and just one 3-hour break.

That’s a 16-hour traveling day…*Jossy’s famous eye roll*

At least we all know it’s going to be worth it! Okay so back to the freak out moment.

Presenting: The freak out the morning of your flight.

So about a week ago another international student arrived in Italy BUT the airlines lost her luggage! So she went about 4-5 days without her luggage and ended up going to the airport to get them after they made it safely to Milan. That wasn’t the only case I heard about airlines losing baggage so this morning I rearranged my carry-on to have clothes in there IN CASE they lose my luggage (travel tip #1: always be prepared). I wasn’t about to arrive in Milan and wear the same clothes for days in a row! I’ve even had dreams about the airlines losing my bags but the ticket clerk assured me when we got here that our luggage’s last stop is Milan and that they’ll have it transported for us in the JFK airport to our terminal (because we have to go from the term we land in to yet another terminal to depart from which means we have to go through TSA again...great).

So I’m praying that my luggage gets on the same planes as we do and will be arriving in Milan at the same time with us.

That was the major thing I was worried about for today just because in my checked bags is everything I’ll need for the next 3 ½ months.

Spare the anxiety attacks and take my advice: always think ahead when you’re traveling…anything could/will happen!

Other than that I’m quite excited! I’ve been saying for about 2 years now that I’ll be studying abroad in Italy and to finally have it happening is kind of mind blowing. By noon on Thursday (Milan time) I (and all of you) will be experiencing life in Italy. I hope you’re ready and excited, there’s no looking back now!

I’ll be posting a short video soon of me traveling to Italy and the first few hours of being in the city!

Until then,

xoxo

Jossy
